Competitive action-response strategies of mobile network operators in sub-Saharan Africa

Mobile telecommunication firms have increasingly found Sub-Saharan Africa to be a favorable location for business and investment. We explore the competitive actions responses of multinational MNOs in three leading sub-regional markets: Kenya, Nigeria, South based on conventional content analysis online-sourced data from time first major move was made each market until 2015. Our findings suggest that smaller, later-entrant operators seeking enhanced subscriber bases positions often initiated rivalries. Defensive mainly main leaders only resulted further attacks, with response speed intensity depending pervasiveness initial attack firm strategy. The ability preempt rivals’ potential moves offered advantage whereas price undercutting, new technologies government protection served as weapons.
